Glorious Preparatory School was founded in 2008 by Ben Muhindo a teacher at Kilembe School and formerly at Kyebambe. The school, based in Kasese in Western Uganda, caters for the children of families who have been displaced from their homes in the Ruwenzori Mountains by the troubles across the nearby border in the Congo. They live in very basic housing on the edge of the town of Kasese and are very poor indeed. The parents of the children were subsistence farmers and have few skills to offer and consequently most are unemployed.
Kasese lies 75 Km south of Fort Portal on the road to Queen Elizabeth National Park and is a hot,dusty and run down town although the backround of the Ruwenzori mountains is quite stunning
From his own meagre salary as a teacher Ben Muhindo secured a loan from the bank, purchased a piece of land and built the school with the aid of his family. Also from his own salary he employs teachers to work with the children. He has a long term vision to develop the school so that eventually students will be able to leave with practical skills which will enable them to find employment and which will be of benefit to Uganda as a whole.
