Kyebambe is a state aided boarding school for girls and is more than 100 years old.The school is situated in Fort Portal in Kabarole District, Western Uganda. Three of the trustees worked there as volunteer teachers in 2007 and were impressed by the hard work and dedication of the staff and the girls. There are currently around 800 students many of whom come from very poor backgrounds. For the past two years Kyebambe has posted the best exam results in Kabarole District in both O level and in A levels. State aid amounts to very little in real terms and the school is not well equipped with text books or other learning materials.Classes are around 60 with often fewer than 20 text books between them The science labs are particularly poorly equipped. Prior to the setting up of the Trust the present Trustees have managed to purchase some text books and other materials through the generosity of friends and relations but much still requires to be done.
This term the Ugandan Governemnt has chosen Kyebambe to be one of the pilot schools for digital teaching and learning in Science and Maths. The Government has provided the training and the software but has not provided the hardware to put it into practice.
Friends of Uganda Schools Trust support fifteen girls by paying their fees and giving a little extra for pocket money. Depending on the stage fees  are around 350,000 Ugandan Shillings per term ( £110 sterling at the current rate of exchange) . Many more girls are in need of support and potential sponsors should contact the Trust in the first instance. Contact us at.UgandaSchoolsTrust@googlemail.com.......
